Welcome to Paddle-Up Pickleball ("Paddle-Up," "we," "us," or "our"). We built this app to make organizing pickleball games simple, social, and spam-free. Protecting your privacy is important to us, and this policy explains exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.
Our commitment: We will never sell your personal data to third parties. Period.
By using Paddle-Up, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account info: Name, email address, date of birth, ZIP code, gender
- Skill ratings: Self-reported DUPR singles and doubles ratings
- Game preferences: Game types you play (singles, doubles, mixed)
- Court preferences: Courts you save and your availability windows per court
- In-app activity: Games you create, join, or waitlist for; crew members you add; messages sent in game chat
- Court requests: Name, address, and details of courts you submit for review
Information Collected Automatically
- Device token: Your device's push notification token to send you game alerts
- Usage data: Features used, screens visited, and in-app actions
- Device info: Device type, operating system, and app version
Information from Third Parties
- Google Sign-In: Name and email address from your Google account if you use Google authentication
- Apple Sign-In: Name and email address from your Apple ID if you use Apple authentication
How We Use Your Information
To Provide the Service
- Match you with games at courts you've saved within your skill rating range
- Send push notifications for new games during your availability windows
- Display your profile to other players in games you've joined
- Enable in-game chat between players and waitlisted participants
- Show show-up rate and games played on your public profile
To Improve the App
- Understand how features are used to make Paddle-Up better
- Diagnose bugs and technical issues
- Develop new features based on usage patterns
For Advertising (Future)
Heads up: We plan to introduce in-app advertising in the future. When we do, we may use certain profile attributes โ such as your skill rating, saved court locations, and age range โ to serve you relevant ads (for example, pickleball gear, local court memberships, or sports apparel). We will never sell this data to advertisers โ we use it internally to select relevant ads to show you within the app. We will notify you before this feature launches and give you the ability to opt out of personalized ads.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited information only in these circumstances:
With Other Players
- Your first name, last initial, skill rating, and game type preferences are visible to other players in games you join
- Your badge (Hst1, P2, W1, etc.) and name appear in in-game chat
- Your profile is visible to players who search for you by name and city
With Service Providers
- Replit: Hosts our backend infrastructure and database
- Expo / EAS: Manages app builds and push notification delivery
- Open-Meteo: Provides weather data โ we send court coordinates to fetch forecasts, no personal data is shared
- Google / Apple: Authentication providers โ governed by their own privacy policies
For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Paddle-Up, our users, or others.
Data Retention
- Your account data is retained as long as your account is active
- Game records are retained for historical show-up rate and games played statistics
- Chat messages are retained for 30 days after a game ends, then automatically deleted
- If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days. Anonymized aggregate data (e.g. game counts) may be retained indefinitely
Your Rights & Choices
Access & Correction
You can view and edit your profile information at any time from the Profile tab in the app.
Notification Controls
You control when and how you receive notifications through your global notification window, per-court snooze, and per-court notification preferences in the app.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account from the Profile tab. This removes your personal data from our systems within 30 days.
Opt-Out of Personalized Ads (Future)
When in-app advertising launches, we will provide an opt-out option in your profile settings to disable personalized ad targeting.
California Residents (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal data. We do not sell personal data. To exercise your rights, contact us at the address below.
European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights to access, rectify, erase, and port your data, as well as the right to object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:
- HMAC-SHA256 signed session tokens for authentication
- Scrypt hashing for email/password credentials
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Access controls limiting who can access production data
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please contact us immediately at the address below.
Children's Privacy
Paddle-Up is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make material changes โ such as introducing advertising โ we will notify you in the app before the changes take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
